Bass Player magazine doesn't give its prestigious Editor's Choice award to just any bass. Peavey is known for durable, extremely playable basses that both look and sound outstanding, but they really outdid themselves here.
Peavey's 5-string Grind Bass features neck-through construction, which means that the mahogany neck goes clear through the body, instead of just being glued or bolted on. This leads to longer sustain and richer resonance. The wings connected to the neck (the rest of the guitar body) are made of imbuya, a wood so exotic that our spellcheck doesn't even recognize it! Imbuya produces a tight, bright tone with plenty of bass.
The Peavey Grind Bass 5 features 5 strings and 24 frets, giving you a two octave range (all the way down to a deep low B) for your bass lines, and the scalloped horn and uniquely sculpted neck allow easy access to the upper frets.
All of the construction features, from the exotic wood to the sculpted body, contribute to giving this bass wonderful natural tones with a rich bottom end and fantastic resonance.
It includes two humbucking pickups made with passive electronics, which frees you from having to bother with batteries . There are individual knobs to adjust the volume and tone of each pickup, giving you a lot of room to build the sound you want. Play with the knobs and you'll find everything from grinding, gutsy tones to clear, natural ones.
