New Style SX basses. In case you don't already know, the new SX basses have a new headstock design and have also gone through a name change. The new Jazz basses and Pbasses have the "URSA" name and number designations, which still has me (and others) a bit confused. Until I get the names straight, I am putting the basses where I think they belong. . . .
• For example . . . the SX Ursa 2 JR RN BK Bass is just an SX SJB-62 3/4 BK Short Scale Jazz bass. But none of that matters. We'll all get used to them in time. A Jazz is still a Jazz and a P, well, you'll get it, I'm sure . . .
Before you buy your SX bass, consider shipping it to me. This will provide you with a perfectly functioning and sounding bass as soon as you take it out of the box. One of the characteristics, and drawbacks, of buying an SX bass is it will arrive as what many consider to be a flawed product. Why do you think it costs so little for these foreign made basses? They're an assembly-line built bass with not enough attention to the details. But they're great workhorse basses after the work is done~!
Need another opinion? There are tons of threads and discussions at Talkbass.com.
Don't take this the wrong way; for the little outlay of money SX basses are a great product; they just need an initial thorough inspection, a professional set-up as a minimum, as well as other details, like minor fretwork, which basically costs another hundred bucks.
For a more in depth look at the work and pricing involved, take some time to check out the Completed Customer Projects and Typical Services and Upgrades.
Consider shipping it to me and I'll do the work and then ship it to you. This usually only takes a few days. Then another day or so to do this minimum level of work. Upgrades and parts are extra of course.
Choose your bass. When you are at the shopping cart checkout at Rondo you'll have the option to ship it to my address (see above).
SX basses sell fast~! However they become available again very quickly as well, which is why I keep the ones that are sold in their locations on their pages. You have a few choices when you see one you want but is listed as SOLD; you can still click through to the Bass Section at Rondo to see if it has been re-stocked; or I may be able to put in a special order for the one you want, although lately Kurt has been frowning on this. Unless it's discontinued, it'll be back when the others are sold.
On the other hand, you might also run into a situation where a bass still listed as available will not actually be available. Even though you may click through and still see the bass with a price tag still on it, it does not mean it is still available at that moment. You see, because these basses sell so fast, Kurt at Rondo also does not delete that page because he knows it will be available again shortly. If you do click through and find it's page has disappeared, that would be a very good indication the bass will never be available again. Simple. Sweet.
