Vintage Style Cloth Covered Wire Original Style "Push Back" Cloth Covered Wire. Identical to the original Fender wiring from the 50's and 60's. Unshielded single conductor wire for all bass guitars and amps. It comes tinned and stranded with a white celanese wrap and waxed braided cotton outer insulation.
Note from a by-gone era: Vintage-style wire can be lacquered to keep the cloth from fraying at the ends. That's only if you're like me and like a very tidy, great-looking control assembly, but who stares into the control cavity anyway~?! Another tidbit: you'll commonly use twice as much black than white due to ground wiring to each pot and to the bridge.

More fun-filled Fender facts:
1950 to 1967: all models used "cloth" wire where the outer casing is actually made of cotton. Usually the color is black for ground and white for "hot". Starting in 1965 sometimes yellow is used instead of white. Jazzmasters and Jaguars also used other colors like red and blue.
1968 to early 1980's: Black and White PVC jacketed wire is used.
1980's onwards: all Fender reissue guitars use the old style cloth covered wire. |
