One of the things that always used to bug me about the silk wrap on the string ends was eventually the fabric would start to fray. Being familiar with DR Black Beauties that are coated with a .003 layer of lacquer to the entire string length, I thought I'd beat the problem of fabric fraying by applying lacquer before installing the strings. Just let'em dry first for about an hour. Over time I also started using different colors to match the bass. And cleaning the strings (with denatured alcohol) about once a month, I found the fabric stayed put even when I've stuck the strings in a bowl over night to soak. -
