Pan Pot Problem
Problem: the Pan Pot operates the neck and bridge pickups and one would assume the center detent to allow an even balance between the two p'ups but the control "cuts out" producing no volume.

Not having checked the electronics prior to this discovery I almost feel responsible, but I am not as someone made changes to the wiring prior to Bob's buying the bass recently. I did an inspection after dialing in the output of the pickups and decided to remove the butt-splice connectors. I soldered the wires for a better connection but the problem remained afterward so that is when I notified Bob.

Sam Ash is open from noon til 6pm on Sundays so IF the wiring is not the culprit I'll at least be able to grab an Allparts pan pot (hopefully). I'll check the wiring after breakfast . . . buzzards hafta eat too . . .

Back to the Wiring: the following photo shows the new connections made, soldered and covered with shrink tubing. There's no way I caused the problems with this system. You can read my email reply to Bob's here which states the extent of the problem, which has to start with proper grounding.

Wiring

Sunday: 1-24-10: Drove 20 miles round trip to Sam Ash.
They had NOTHING in stock~!

Monday: 1-25-10: 4pm to 5pm - I stripped the body to apply copper foil shielding and rewire the controls.

Monday: 1-25-10: 5pm to 6:30pm - I shielded the cavities.

Monday: 1-25-10: 7:30pm to 9:30pm - I rewired the controls. The problem with the pan pot was located; it was a cross-short caused by a loose sire strand on the pan pot from the black ground lug of the volume pot to the white wire lug that runs to the bridge pickup. You can see the Pan Pot wire locations in this diagram.
