Body Finish: Black - good condition.
Chip in paint and into the wood below upper horn next to neck pocket.
Scuffed up paint on lower edge of body, mostly near output jack.
Excessive build-up of crud in the cavities, which looks to be wax.
Had to steam the rear battery access cover in order to remove.
Patched, compounded and refinished certain areas mentioned above.
Pickguard: 4-ply Tortoise Drilled to install thumb rest and shielded rear of pickguard with copper foil.
Thumb Rest: Installed Kingwood Finger Rest - ordered from England - Paid
Bridge: Leo Quan Badass II - Unslotted - Slotted by me. Paid
Bridge Cover: None
Strap Buttons: Replaced with Schaller Strap Locks & black rubber washers. Paid
Fretwork: Considered a "partial" fretjob due to not replacing frets. The neck is installed in a jig with fretboard dead level and dial calipers to determine the height of each fret and the relationship between all the frets. Then they are leveled, crowned, end beveled and radiused, fine sanded, polished, sealed and the whole neck treated with Dr. Duck's AxWax.
Labor: $100.00 - PAID 1-13-09
3-28-09: Saturday - Neck has all fret ends protruding excessively. I cannot understand how this made it out of the factory. If I recall correctly, Joe said there was buzzing along the fretboard but I don't notice anything significant. Board appears set properly. There is some buzzing on the D-string from the G to the B; we'll see with tap testing (frets may not be seated properly).
3-31-09: Just a mention on the finish - WTF is Fender thinking? They better send somebody down to Mexico to try and get them Mexicans off the peyote~! The finish on this neck is so skimpy I can barely tell it has any. No bullshit . . . SX beats the shit outta Fender MIMs, all around~!
4-1-09: Completed resetting, leveling, polishing etc. . . 7 hours . . .
4-2-09: Completed rolling fret ends & f'board. Sealed & polished w/ Dr Duck's.
Headstock: Fender logo. 4-2-09: Filled string retainer hole.
String Retainer: Hipshot (3-string, chrome) Paid
Removal of Fender string retainer left a hole: filled with maple sawdust.
Strings: Rotosound RS 77 LE Jazz Bass - Monel Flatwounds Paid
Diameters: .050 .075 .095 .110 Still waiting on strings as of Friday.
Saturday 4-4-09: Contacted Music123: UPS Delivered: 4-7-09
String Nut: Replaced with new Bone Nut: .050 .075 .095 .110
4-01-09: Inspection of the existing string nut shows rework of this nut is probable, although the G string slot is at it's lowest point. All the string slots will have to be widened and E A D will be lowered as well. They should look like this.
Tuning Machines: Fender Vintage style. 3-31-09: Inspected: found loose.
4-3-09: Disassembled, adjusted, lubed, and reassembled.
Setup: includes body & fretboard polishing, adjustments of neck relief, tuning, intonation, action, and pickup height for maximum output.
Labor: $50.00 Paid
Initial Inspection: I didn't notice any "squelching", or any other noise when I plugged it in, not even a slight hum. At this time I don't think the bass warrants disassembly of the electronics as there appears to be no problems. The controls worked fine. The output could be improved by simply raising the pickups; they are too low.
Pickups: Nordstrand Jazz
1-13-09 - Received payment for DiMarzio pickups.
• Cancelled pickup purchase and applied towards labor instead.
3-30-09: The Nordstrands work fine IMO. They were set fairly low and will be improved by raising upon final assembly and setup.
Pickup Cover: None
PreAmp: J Retro ?
Joe, you mentioned the J Retro preamp on 1-13-09 . . .
3-31-09: Found the PreAmp to be in good working order.
If you ever decide to swap out the electronics, I want first dibs on this one.
Controls: Master Volume, Pan Pot, 3-Band Active EQ: Treble Boost/Cut, Mid Boost/Cut, Bass Boost/Cut.
Cavities: All cavities wll have copper foil shielding applied. Paid
Excessive build-up of wax in the cavities. Cleaned up well with alcohol.
I initially thought the cavities had the conductive paint, but they don't.
3-31-09: Shielded cavities.
Wiring: Inspected 3-30-09: Found all wiring to be working properly.
All solder joints are bright and tight.
