I'm swapping out the necks which will also require at least a partial fretjob, redress and setup. I'll also be cutting a nut slot in the new neck and fitting a new GraphTech Black TUSQ XL nut
(an $extra on parts) because it's not coming with either. The total additional charge for the above work was/is quotted at $100, bringing the total to $450.00
Then I made Ron an offer he couldn't refuse~!
I knocked $50 off the price if Ron payed for the neck work immediately. If I didn't get the only available matching fretted neck from Rondo right away I might be forced to buy another bass just to get the neck. So the deal went down smoooothly and everybody is happy . . . right Ron~?
Ordered the SJB-75C Neck from Rondo Wednesday (09-03-08) and is due to arrive here tomorrow afternoon. Rondo is only 1-1/2 hours from my house~!

Ordered a pre-slotted Black TUSQ XL Nut from GraphTech: 09-03-08
BLACK TUSQ XL is designed to boost your guitar's tone and performance. This precision nut is made with a special formulation of material based on our highly resonant TUSQ man made ivory, which couples the strings' vibrations to the neck and is impregnated with Teflon to improve the tuning performance of your guitar. Playing hard or doing massive string bends, your strings simply glide back into tune. - Continued at GraphTech
The nut I chose was not the specified Jazz nut as it appears as though it may be too shallow, so I ordered Part no. PT-1200-00 due to its height of 11/32".
Sure, I'll have to reduce its height more than the Jazz nut shown but the other choice (PT-1212-00) shows the slots looking to be too close to the ends.
GraphTech Nut: Arrived 09-11-08. The nut finally arrived but get this: they sent the WRONG one~! They sent the
curved Fender jazz one. It doesn't even look like graphite~! It's got marks on the side of it that looks like an injection molded plastic nut. The only difference is a lot of plastic nuts are hollow.
I'm pissed . . . I've waited since the 3rd (8 days) and this crap happens. Well, I have to make it work. The radius of the top looks the same though. I'll just have to radius the nut slot in the neck. Oh well, at least the tuner bushings are in and the frets are all set. I just need to do a final polish after I set the nut.
Oh SHIT~! Turns out the graphite nut is definitely NOT a Jazz nut. The string spacings are too wide (pbass nut) and would force the E & G strings to ride the edge of the frets.
This nut is NFG for anything but a P-bass~!
Take a look at the nut they sent me. See how wide it is, and where the strings would hafta ride?? Well, take a look at a
Jazz nut on the board. I want to use the Jazz nut but don't want to wait for GraphTech to resend one,
do you?
Either way, I'd rather install the other black nut I have and remove the charge below for the GraphTech nut.
