Project Parts and Labor Checklist

Yamaha Body

Body Finish: Green - Cleaned & applied Dr. Duck's Axwax while unassembled.

Pickguard: None

Finger/Thumb Rests: Yes, black thumby

Bridge: Stock Yamaha OEM Deluxe high mass chrome. Disasasembled to clean and polish. Reassembled and reattached with bridge ground wire beneath.

Bridge/Pickup Covers: Chrome Pickup Rings. Polished.

Strap Buttons/Locks: Yes - stock chrome. Reinstalled with black rubber washers.



Yamaha Neck

Headstock: yup . . . here it is showing the E-string post bushing removed to enable installation into my neck jig for the partial fretjob.

Partial Fretjob: With the neck installed in my jig, I level the fretboard via the truss rod nut using a two foot straight-edge. Each fret then gets my tap test to determine if the fret is fully seated and secure. Any loose frets are removed and replaced. Then all frets are leveled, crowned, and polished. I also use a dial indicator system to ensure all frets are leveled to the same height +/- .000"

Fret Ends: All fret jobs require fret end dressing to remove sharp edges and to ensure they are flush with the edge of the fboard. As an EXTRA charge to the fret job, the fboard can be "rolled", which involves filing and sanding a small radius to both sides of the fboard edge. This results in a very comfortable playing neck.

Tuners: Removed. Disassembled. Adjusted. Polished. Reassembled.    Reinstall
Any time tuning machines are removed, besides the obvious adjustments to the pressure plates (if any), all screws are replaced when reinstalled onto headstock.

Truss Rod: Adjustment at heel

Strings: Replace with DR Red Devils: .045, .065, .085, .105 ~ Prior to installation of the strings, the fboard and strings are treated with Dr. Duck's Axwax.

String Nut: Replaced stock plastic with Brass instead of Graph Tech. While removing the existing nut the area forward of the nut disintegrated. Here's a photo of the headstock showing the removal of the damaged area. I will be making a new nut with brass installed with two small screws; one between the E&A and the other between the D&G. ~ Placed order for brass 360 alloy flat bar.

String Retainer: Replace 2-string with Hipshot 3-string retainer

Setup: Adjustments of neck relief via truss rod under string tension, string height (action), open string tuning, and intonation at the 1st octave (12th fret).



Electronics: Passive

Pickups: Stock Yamaha P/J setup. P-Pup - reversed. Bridge Pickup

Pickup Cavities: Copper Shielded

Controls: Volume - Tone with 3-Way Switch (On-Off-On)
Drilled Volume and Tone control holes out to 3/8" for CTS bushing.

Control Plate: Rear Plastic Cover ~ shielded

Control Knobs: Replaced push-ons with 2 Hipshot O-Ring knobs w/set screws.
Drilled out the knobs from 6mm to .26" in order to mount onto the 1/4" pot shaft.

Control Cavity & Cover: Copper Shielded

Completed wiring the control assembly.

Setup: Adjustments of pickup height for maximum output.



Shipping: UPS

While this bass was dropped off in a gig bag by Tom, he has requested it to be shipped back to him. This requires a box, which does not come cheaply to those of us in the business. It's one thing for a bassist to enter a music shop to request a box to ship their bass in. It's another thing for a known "competitor" to do this. It's just not done for a number of reasons. And even for the bassist seeking just one box, these music shops will probably charge you a $10 fee.

The cost of boxes for shipping bass guitars, in case you have not tried to obtain one, is not cheap. One place online for you to check prices is uline.com, but you'll have to buy a minimum of 5 boxes, and there's a catch to that too~! You also have to pay for the size of the box and these boxes are larger than they really need to be if you're shipping a standard size electric bass guitar. The boxes at Uline.com are just not right for bass guitars. One is okay for Acoustics though.

What you need is a box that is 46" to 48" long BY 13" to 14" wide BY 3" to 4" high.
Where do you get just one box?????   YOU CAN'T~! Unless you buy one from me.
