Jazz Bass Case ~ 48" x 16" x 3"
The above picture is not to scale but is a close guestimate as seen in this photo. I'll be working on maintaining the overall length at 48" max in order to be able to ship a bass in this case via UPS with the least possible charge. Everything over 48" in length tends to increase the cost substantially. Yes, there would be increased cost to ship the 48" case with bass inside, but we're talking about weight and not weight PLUS added length. Estimated average shipping charge to ship a bass in this case would be about $40.00 to $45.00 where the average cost to ship this bass in a cardboard box is about $30.00 to $35.00 so, which would you rather have protecting your bass~?
Wood: Top & Bottom: 1/4" to 3/8" hardwood plywood, probably birch as it's handy at Home Depot. Why not 1/8" thickness? It's not strong enough for shipping.
Frame: 1/2" x 1-1/4" hardwood rips . . . probably from left over hardwood rips . . .
Finish: Typically paint or stain to match the bass.

Hasps: One Locking Hasp: 1.8" x .375" x 2.87"
Feet: If flat corner hardware is used these are usually necessary. But with the ball-end corners, there's no need for feet because the ball suspends the case 1/4" off the floor. BUT the balls also make the case larger; a negative for shipping.
Corners:
Handle: Heavy duty black leather with trunk hardware for ends or Briefcase Style.
Surface Mount Carry Case Handle: 2-3/4" x 7-1/2"
Foam: yep . . . different densities . . .
Polyester foam: 3 @ 59" x 19-3/4" x 1" : $45.00
Material: Crushed velvet or suede leather . . .
Compartments: multiple. Storage areas act as weight and balance. If there were no compartments the handle would have to be moved rearward to carry the added weight of the body over the neck.
Fasteners: Glue, screws, rivets . . .
